How Does LACRIFILL® Work?

To understand how LACRIFILL® works, it helps to know how tears function. Every time you blink, a thin layer of tears coats your eyes, keeping them moist, clean, and protected. These tears then drain through small openings near the corners of your eyelids (called puncta) and travel through the canaliculi into your nasal cavity.

In dry eye patients, this process often happens too quickly, leading to inadequate lubrication. LACRIFILL® works by forming a soft, temporary gel plug in the drainage pathway. This reduces tear outflow, allowing more tears to remain on the eye surface - naturally restoring balance to your tear film.
